CHAPTER 5
“It didn’t work.”
I looked at Polo.
“Sex only made me want you more. I’m going crazy. Every time Eddie touches you, I feel like I want to kill him.”
I looked at him as though he was speaking a foreign language.
“Get out of my face Polo,” I said to him and walked towards the door.
Eddie and the boys were washing the car and I was bringing them lunch.
Polo offered to help me carry out the sandwiches.
“Sassi, I want you. Tell me you don’t want me again.”
“I don’t want you.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Well, you should.”
I walked outside as Polo continued to talk but he stopped abruptly as Eddie smiled at us.
I sat the drinks on the hood of Polo’s car and he sat the sandwiches beside it.
Eddie waited until I was far enough from the food and out of nowhere he slung water off of the rag in my direction.
Was he trying to be fun?
“Really Eddie?”
He picked up the water hose.
“Really what?”
Eddie pointed the hose at me.
“I wish you would. You wouldn’t dare,” I said to him.
“Hmm, let’s see about that!”
Eddie sprayed me and I mean he sprayed me good.
I ran towards him, drenched in water, yet he kept on spraying.
He started to laugh once I reached him and tried to swing on him.
The boys laughed and joined in on the fun as Eddie and I wrestled over the hose.
Finally Eddie gave up and I sprayed him and the kids as the hollered in laughter and attempt to run for cover.
Soak and wet, I stopped and Eddie came closer to me.
He was smiling and so was I.
“Oh, I love you Sassi.”
“I love you too baby.”
We kissed and the kids acted as though they had just saw us naked or something.
“We’re going to be okay.”
“I hope so.”
Things weren’t exactly normal between us yet, but his comment had just given me a ton of hope.
We were going to make it through this.
Every marriage goes through something, it was just our turn.
Heading to reach them all a drink, I almost forgot that Polo was there.
He was now sitting on the porch, staring at us.
I could see how uncomfortable he was and he may have even been a little hurt by watching us share a moment.
Scratch that, there was fire in his eyes, but he had to get over it.
I walked towards him with a glass and a sandwich.
“Here you go,” he said.
“This is supposed to be my family. Not his. You are supposed to be mine,” he whispered.
“You’re welcome,” I said loud enough for Eddie to hear and headed back in his direction.
He’d agreed to one time and he wasn’t getting anything else from me.
Not now.
And not ever.
